Money from family. Keep it clean

A short written note beats a fuzzy “we’ll work it out.”
Family money is normal. Bond. A car. A rough month. It only gets weird when nobody writes anything down.
A five-line note
- How much, and on what date.
- Is it a loan or a gift?
- If it’s a loan: any repayment rhythm. Even “when I can, starting after June.”
- What happens if a job falls over.
- Who else knows (so it doesn’t become a secret).
You’re not being cold. You’re protecting the relationship. Vague debt is how Christmas gets weird.
If it was meant as a gift, say thank you and don’t invent a guilt repayment. If it was a loan, treat it like one at a pace that still leaves you a life.
Clean terms are kindness. Shame doesn’t belong in the note.
