Super 101 for your first job

A pile with your name on it. First job: check SG lands, then ignore the rest for now.
Super isn’t a grey-hair club. It’s a pile with your name on it. Money your job puts aside for much-later-you. It’s not a test. You don’t have to love it. You do want it to actually arrive.
SG, in plain English
Super guarantee (SG) is the percentage your employer is meant to pay on top of your wage (rules and rates change. ATO and your award are the source of truth).
Have a look on a payslip or in the fund. If nothing’s landing, ask payroll or your manager. That’s admin, not you being “bad with money.”
You might already have a fund
A past casual job, a default at this one, or something your parents set up. Finding the login once is enough for week one. If you later want a calm frame (not a research spiral): How do I even pick a Super fund without spiralling?.
- Name of the fund.
- That the email/mobile is yours.
- A balance that isn’t $0 if you’ve been paid for a bit.
You don’t need a perfect Super strategy on day one. Confirm it’s happening. The rest can wait.
